Academic Success-Project Graduate College Trips
At Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, the Project Graduate program offers comprehensive, college-bound educational enrichment curriculum, events, and outings for teens ages 13-18. The program provides participants with guidance and specific skill-building opportunities to help them meet high school graduation requirements, successfully navigate the college application process, and make a successful transition to college.
Through this program, our teens have been able to visit some great universities, getting a first-hand look at the different campus cultures, activities, and processes. By visiting a mix of universities, including urban and suburban campuses, Ivy League schools and community colleges, members are exposed to a wide variety of programs and able to truly picture themselves at each school. Some trips this year included Columbia University, NYU, Fordham University, University of Albany, and more!
We are excited to announce that four of our 9th grade members from the Thomas S. Murphy Clubhouse, Josiah P., Raheem R., Sekou C., and Sinaly K., have been chosen to represent Madison Square Boys & Girls Club as fellows for The Fellowship Initiative (TFI) launched by JP Morgan Chase in 2010.
This four-year fellowship is designed to provide low-income minority male students with the tools they need to overcome the barriers they will inevitably face. Each student will receive a mentor, 3 years of Saturday school, summer internships, international travel, networking skills, leadership development and college assistance.
Madison Council Recap—Spring Fling
Madison Council, the young professionals group at Madison Square Boys & Girls Club, hosted their “Spring Fling Cocktail” last month at the Grey Lady on NYC’s Lower East Side. The event included a raffle, open bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, and lots of networking! The event was attended by over 75 people and raised nearly $5000 for Madison Square Boys & Girls Club.
Madison Council is a diverse group of young adults committed to advancing the mission of Madison. The group primarily supports the organization through raising awareness and acting as ambassadors of Madison in the community at large, event-based fundraising, and engaging in volunteer activities at our Clubhouses.
