JANUARY MADISON MATTERS

Spreading Holiday Cheer

It’s no secret: Madison Square Boys & Girls Club loves the holidays and it starts with our members! Between Clubhouse celebrations and giving back to their communities, Madison’s members spread holiday cheer far and wide and definitely got into the season of giving.

This holiday season our members participated in many fun activities. Across all four Clubhouses members and staff participated in canned food drives, coat giveaways, and more! Members from our Columbus Clubhouse wrote get well cards for kids in local hospitals and even began collecting items for families affected by the recent apartment fires in their neighborhood. By following the narrative set forth by our Good Character & Citizenship focused activities, members are learning to give back to the communities that have given so much to them.

But it wasn’t all work! Our Clubhouses celebrated the holidays with parties, sweet treats, and lots of presents. Members, staff, and families were treated to holiday themed fun including games, performances, and music, making this holiday season one to remember!

Gearing Up for Greatness: 2018 Youth of the Year Competition

As the Youth of the Year Dinner approaches, preparation for this year’s competition is in full swing. YOY candidates have been selected at all four Clubhouses and are working hard to become their Clubhouse YOY representative this year.

Between essay writing, volunteerism, and refining their public speaking skills, our Youth of the Year program is helping to shape the future of our teen members. One such example comes from our Navy Yard Clubhouse where YOY candidates are participating in Charity Miles; tracking their daily fitness activities that help raise funds for breast cancer research. Currently, our Clubhouse staff is working with the prospective candidates to get them ready for the Clubhouse competitions that will take place next month. The winners from each Club will then go on to compete to become this year’s Youth of the Year representative for Madison Square Boys & Girls, who will then go on to compete at the state competition.
